Throwing a Kids Halloween Party

Throwing a Kids Halloween Party

Throwing a Halloween Party for Kids is one of the most fun things about the holiday. They get so excited with their costumes and the decorations, it's easy to build on their excitement. Halloween is fun for the party planner too- it's a holiday that demands creativity!

The Must-Haves
  • Great Home Décor:. A bag a spider webbing goes a long way in decorating, and you don't have to upset your home or yard too much to use it. Start in one corner of the house, and slowly spread your webbing- instantly your home has upped the creep-factor. But you don't have to stop there! Add a few spiders to the webbing! This is just to get your creativity flowing- often your kids will have ideas on decorating, and a few Halloween art projects are fun for both the kids and parents.
  • Spooky Music: Streaming music has made this insanely easy! Just do a search on Spotify or Pandora for a kids themed Halloween mix- there are several out there. Or, you can make your own Monster Mash up! The Ghost Busters theme song is a classic, as are "I Want Candy" and "Purple People Eater".
  • Food: We have you covered on this front! Tea and Aram Sandwiches are easy food to put out and very kid-friendly. And, if you have a slightly older crowd, the mini corn empanadas and green garbanzo hummus bites are insanely delicious.
  • Fun and Games: The classic bobbing for apples has made way for some pretty fun games. The mummy wrap with toilet paper is hysterical and interactive (without sharing germs might we add). Everyone loves to show off costumes in a costume fashion show; and a prize for the best carved (or painted if you have little ones) pumpkins is always a huge hit!

Throwing an Adult Halloween Party

This list will seem surprisingly similar to the children's advice from above, because we are, after all, all children at heart! But adults like to take their parties to the next level. Here are a few tips to elevate the classic Halloween party to adult-status.

The Must-Haves

  • Up Your Décor Game:. You already have the webbing all throughout your home. But adults need ambiance for a great Halloween soiree. Consider the tea lights to set the mood. Regular tealights will burn for three to five hours and can be floated in water. Or, spring for the electric ones- while they can't float in water, they do lower your chances of any accidents waiting to happen. Buy flowers two weeks in advance and leave them either outside or in your garage, by the time the party rolls around, your dead flowers will be a hit centerpiece. We recommend spraying them with good old fashioned hairspray before bringing them in your home, to help prevent petals from falling everywhere.
  • Elevate the Music Game: Yes, we all love a great Monster Mash. But if you want to host a truly eerie party, try playing organ music. Think creepy, not cutesy.
  • Food For All: Take advantage of having Draeger's awesome catering menu and find some bites that will tantalize your adult taste buds. Placing a piece or black or yellowing cheese cloth over your tablecloth will help set the mood, and you can get creative with giving the food dishes creepy names. For example, Draeger's Green Garbanzo Hummus Bites could be "Toxic Waste Bites" or our Tea Sandwiches could become "Dead Men's Finger Sandwiches."
  • Witch's Brew: If you're throwing an adult Halloween Party, Halloween 'Boos' should be on your shopping list. There are a million creative, creepy Halloween mixed drinks you can make, or opting for beer and wine makes clean up a little easier. There are some amazing creepy Halloween wines that taste incredible - Ghost Block Cabernet Sauvignon or Zinfandel, Ghost Pines Chardonnay, Banshee Sauvignon Blanc, The Cleaver Red Wine... the list goes on. As for beer and hard cider, Heretic Brewing Company makes some amazing beers year round, their Shallow Grave Porter is rated 94 points on RateBeer.com. Tip, stay away from most pumpkin beers, they tend to be sickly sweet and lack body- that being said, DogFish Head Brewing Company makes a Punkin' Ale which happens to be out of this world as far as pumpkin beers go!
  • Fun and Games: Run a Murder Mystery Party, play a game of Witch's Brew Beer Pong (orange solo cups are a must!), Halloween Movie Trivia cards can be handed out with a bottle of wine going to the winner... the list is never ending. You can get so creative with Halloween it's hard to go wrong here!
